He shows us how to be a nice guy/robot—and how sometimes a good look at your “opposite” shows how you define yourself.
Near the end, one of characters says:
“Alex…is emotional…emotional…is a weakness in this business.”
Ah, but if she only knew that emotions are tools to be worked with. They are only weaknesses when they are ignored and the dysfunctional belief systems behind them are allowed to subconsciously control a person’s life.
Sometimes you have to be emotional first, before you can be rational—you have to figure out the belief systems behind the emotional reactions before you can access and change them.

Yeah, there is something therapeutic about watching a robot becoming more human, isn’t there? Maybe it’s because robots are good at showing us who we are.
